It’s that empty feeling of the heart, but you just can’t put you finger on it. The feeling of feeling unsatisfied with your life. Perhaps no major life events took place, and you may even have the very things you worked hard to earn in life. However, it’s impossible to shake off that emptiness, the feeling of incompleteness in your life.
If you’ve been a born-again believer for some years now, like myself, you have definitely come to a point in your life where you have experienced what I just described. It’s when the Lord Jesus calls us to a place of solitude, a place where we may get to know Him in a deeper, more intimate way.
This is done by spending more time in His word, less time with the outside world, and forgoing relationships (not neglecting our role responsibilities, of course) that is encouraging us to build up of spirit through Holy Spirit. It’s done by choosing to spend our free time with Him than having that hour long conversation or binge watching Netflix.
The Lord has called me again to this deeper walk in Him. The Holy Spirit has been a gentleman like only He can do. I was sensing this call for months now, however, it took me few days to really focus on the inner call which was to draw closer to my Heavenly Father through Christ Jesus.
Psalm 42:7 ~ Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls;
All Your waves and billows have gone over me.
You know the feeling of a heartbreak? (As I write this, the Holy Spirit gives me a quick vision of the Lord Jesus walking walking away — more like he’s walking onward, and we are to continue to follow Him. Our heart feels broken, we feel empty, incomplete when the love walk is severed, when we stop the walk with Christ Jesus.We feel this because the lover of our soul wants to walk onward – but we’ve stopped along the way. Sometimes weariness of the cares of the world can cause this.
This breaks the heart of Lord Jesus.
Isaiah 55:3 describes the Messiah as a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Jesus Christ is alive–He is fully God, fully Man, therefore, His heart still aches over sin, and when His friends turn from Him. When we are sensitive to the Holy Spirit, we feel this prompting to return to our First Love. At this point, we are to approach Heavenly Father and pray Psalm 27:8 ~ My heart says of you, “Seek his face!” Your face, LORD, I will seek.
As a caveat, one must be careful not to fall into self-pity, which the enemy takes as an open door to bring in depression. Every thought that exalts itself against the knowledge of Jesus Christ must to be taken captive and brought to submission under His Lordship–[2 Corinthians 10:5]. This is done by speaking the Word–out loud–over our self and into our situation. We must ask the Lord God for forgiveness, renouncing all ungodly agreements made in thoughts and verbally. The words of our mouth condemns us saying things like “Oh, it’s just seasonal depression again”. We must bring all emotions that we are experiencing to Heavenly Father in Jesus name, and allow Holy Spirit to give clarity and receive wisdom and instructions on how to proceed.
With this yearning placed in our heart, it’s the call of God to come into spiritual maturity.
Hebrews 6:1 | Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity…
Father God wants His children to grow up! He prunes us by clipping all dead and dying things in our life. [John 15:2] Those things we use to find comfort, the people we lean on, and the things that once excited us will no longer due–this is the pruning effect. When those things are gone, the emptiness comes and this is what Lord Jesus wants to fill in us, which is Him and His love.

This yearning is a call to death of self. It’s a call to make Jesus the Lord of areas of our life that we have yet to release to His Lordship. Not just the idea of His Lordship, but total surrender to His will and ways. Are we willing to be crucified with Christ Jesus?
Galatians 2:20 ~ I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me
Luke 9:23 ~ If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Romans 12:1 ~ offer your bodies as a living sacrifice
If you have been feeling this call to deeper intimacy in Christ, and the pangs of emptiness in your heart will not be satisfied with anything else that you’ve tried to pacify it with, then take this journey with me. The Holy Spirit is the teacher. He awaits our hand and the yielding of our heart to the Master’s operating table, Lord Jesus Christ. Let us not fight the effect of the pruning that He wants to operate in us. He knows just what we need to be perfect in Him.
Until the next time, shalom my friend.
